Mussolini got the trains running on time. Hitler ended the German economic depression and loved his German shepherd. Nixon opened trade with China and signed an arms limitation treaty with Russia. Can you name five positive, helpful, patriotic things that Donald Trump has done in this term of his presidency?
In his first term he didn’t go so wild. He closed the Mexican border to illegal immigrants, but gave us ICE, a masked, unidentified armed military organization, invading our cities, particularly Democratic ones, murdering people who do not represent a real and immediate threat to our safety. Not so great an accomplishment. Also, he lowered taxes, but the very rich, mostly Republicans, got the better treatment in that deal by far. Anyhow, all that was in his first term.
He did stop the war in Gaza, but that wasn’t our war and Hamas deserved to get everything the Israeli’s gave them. Why did Hamas put their headquarters under hospitals?
Republicans argue that Trump was responsible for government deregulation and a reduction in the number of government employees. A close look reveals that the deregulation was in favor of big business and at the expense of Americans such as stopping the requirement to have children vaccinated, which created a measles crisis. Selling off public lands, allowing unchecked pollution, drilling of coal and oil at the expense of green energy including wind farms and electric cars. The oil and gas industry gave Trump over one billion dollars and got their money’s worth. The federal employees who were discharged were mostly Democrats who refused to agree that the 2020 election was rigged against Trump. The employment test was “total loyalty to Trump.” The Supreme Court gave Trump authority to fire anyone he disliked for any reason and in addition, they anointed him with personal “Immunity.”
If you think the tariffs he placed were great, then they count as a nice thing, but when the average American has to pay for those tariffs, which are just passed on to them, it’s terrible. Also, when the Court allowed rebates for the illegal tariffs, you didn’t get anything back. It went to the large corporate political Trump donors like Amazon. The corporations that received that money were not compelled to distribute it to their stockholders and you probably didn’t get one red cent.
Purging the military, discharging career personnel, getting into bed with Putin who supplies strategic war information to aid our enemy, Iran, is not an accomplishment. Nor is America’s military killing defenseless seamen in international waters. It stinks.
In all fairness, there is a Trump savings program for newborns, which sounds pretty good, but in balance is the gripe against the Iran War which he started all on his own and will end only “when he feels it in his bones”. This is a horror. Groceries are sky high; restaurants are prohibitively expensive; Gas is over $4.50 a gallon and diesel over $6.50 causing transportation costs to skyrocket and airline fares to fly high. People can’t afford health insurance and many are going around unable to go to a hospital or doctor.
What about five things that Trump has done for himself in his second term?
Trump personally immediately made over 1.4 billion dollars for himself, dealing in crypto currency of questionable real value, primarily with Arab countries. The Trump family made another billion dollars or more on other highly questionable deals, using his position as President and the sale of inside information in advance of it being announced publicly, making them very, very rich.
Trump sued the IRS for allowing his tax returns to become public and was represented by his personal attorney, Todd Blanche. He then settled with the IRS, an agency which he himself controlled and the settlement agreement was drawn by his attorney and approved by the Trump controlled IRS, also represented by the same Todd Blanche. Yes, Blanche, representing both sides, IRS and Trump, and they agreed not to require Trump or his family to file tax returns for the years in which he had this enormous income. Thus, it appears that Trump, using his power as president, has become a billionaire without paying income taxes on this money. You try doing that!
Trump has used the presidency to persecute his enemies like James Comey, Letitia James, Jack Smith, Adam Schiff, Christopher Wray, Ilhan Omar, Jean Carrol, Mark Kelly, Jerome Powell, John Brennan, Gavin Newsome and many others. The Attorney General appears to do exactly as he is told by President Trump regardless of the facts and with indifference to the truth.
Mr. Trump, using the power of his presidency, and the compliance of the Court, has avoided a potential jail sentence for the felony for which he was convicted in New York and has totally been able to escape prosecution charges for illegally taking classified documents and hiding them in his home at Mar a Largo.
Trump has used the pardoning power of the presidency for political and possibly personal gain. Someone should take a good look at the pardon given to Juan Hernandez, brokered by Matt Gaetz and Roger Stone where Hernandez, the former president of Honduras, was convicted by a jury of smuggling over 400 tons of cocaine into the United States and was about to start serving a forty-five-year prison sentence. He was pardoned by President Trump without explanation or justification. There are many Republican politicians, caught personally pocketing election funds, who he pardoned without any real basis, not any Democrats.
Trump, who tried to assist and protect Epstein in the criminal courts by providing his attorneys and negotiating a sweetheart deal, has been amazingly successful in suppressing the Epstein files, which he was required to have produced under a law that he, himself signed. These files have been cleansed of Trump’s name and the unredacted files have not been produced and the remaining over three million pages continue to be undisclosed, in great part due to the effort of Trump’s attorney and the U.S. Attorney General, who is the same person, namely Todd Blanche, who clearly has a conflict of interest. Mr. Trump sent a risqué birthday card to Epstein expressing a very close friendship and depicting a nude woman. Trump says that he hardly knew Epstein. Trump denies signing this card. Who is he kidding? You don’t send this type of a card to someone you hardly know. America is being outfoxed by Mr. Trump and Todd Blanche.
It wasn’t hard to list over five things that President Trump has done for himself. What about you? Can you list five ways in which Mr. Trump’s presidency has helped you since his second election. It ain’t easy. Maybe we should follow Mr. Trump’s suggestion and vote in the midterm elections as though HE is the Republican candidate everywhere the choice appears on the ballot. He has succeeded in splitting our country apart. If we are smart Mr. Trump will lose in a landslide.
