How did we get in this mess, with the President acting as King and the Congress and the Supreme Court being rubber stamps and not acting as a brake on his excesses? Blame the corruption of the present administration. Blame Jill Biden for attempting to hide Joe’s senility and for holding on to power for too long. Blame Mitch McConnell for getting us a judiciary that is tilted, unethical and awarded the President immunity. Blame the Christian Nationalists for their grabbing control of the government so that all other religions will bow to their beliefs and we will be a “Christian Country.” Forget about religious freedom. I thought that was the reason we came to America in the first place.
The government and the military have been purged. The Inspectors Generals who were to supervise the government have been dismissed. There is no room for dissent or discussion.
What happened to the Epstein files that Mr. Trump was going to make available?
The President, totally on his own, started a War with Iran, created a split with our allies including our closest relative, Canada, got us into bed with the Russian communists, supporting Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, burdened us with illegal tariffs and had armed, masked, inadequately trained ICE troops roam our cities, shooting innocent American citizen protesters.
The odor surrounding presidential pardons stinks. At the urging of Matt Gaetz, a discredited former Republican Congressman and Roger Stone, a convicted Republican criminal, Mr. Trump pardoned Juan Hernandez, the former President of Honduras who was convicted by a jury of smuggling four TONS of cocaine into our country and was sentenced to forty-five years in prison. This pardon cannot be explained.
Since being sworn in Mr. Trump and his family received over 2.2 billion dollars from cybercurrency sales profits and foreign investments and other highly questionable deals. Mr. Trump sued the government, IRS for disclosing some past income tax returns. His attorney Todd Blanche is also the Attorney General at the Department of Justice, and was evidently involved on both sides of the same case and appears to have settled the litigation with himself. Mr. Trump controlled both sides of the lawsuit. Part of the settlement was to be the creation of a 1.7-billion-dollar slush fund which could be used to pay off the January 6th rioters. Part of the settlement was that the IRS would not require the Trump Family to file tax returns for the years in which they made those highly questionable 2.2 billion dollars. The presiding judge said that it was an illegal settlement designed to illegally deprive her of jurisdiction and referred the matter to the New York Bar to investigate Mr. Blanche. He can always get a pardon for doing anything illegal. You try to pull off some shenanigan like that and see what happens.
The Trump administration has denied global warming, favoring coal and gas pollution over clean energy in support of the huge Republican political donations from the oil companies. They have sold off portions of our National Monuments and Parks to political allies, particularly in Utah, for development including strip mining and lumbering. They have withheld or delayed paying disaster relief money to Democratic communities, using relief money as a political weapon.
Mr. Trump was charged with taking home and hiding all those top-secret classified documents. Many were found in a bathroom at his Florida home, Mar-a-Lago. The charges were dropped only after he controlled the Department of Justice, and the Supreme Court awarded him immunity.
Over 28 women have accused our criminally convicted President of improper sexual behavior. Jean Carroll sued and said that he raped her in a department store changing room. She won over five million dollars from him. He denies it all.
Mr. Trump was deeply involved with Jeffrey Epstein. The Trump administration will never let you find out how close their friendship and involvement with young women was. Mr. Trump owned the Miss Teenage Beauty Contest and was the source of complaints for visiting the partially dressed young ladies in their dressing rooms.
Because of Donald Trump gasoline costs over four dollars a gallon. Americans are going without health insurance. The rates and the deductibles have skyrocketed. All prices are extremely high. President Trump says that the economy is just wonderful and that the issue of “affordability” is a Democratic hoax. Tell that to the cashier at the grocery store.
The entire government is corrupt. Enough is enough!
If ever we were faced with an important election, it’s the November 2026 mid-term. President Trump will stop at NOTHING to retain control, and if necessary, the Republicans will rig, tilt and manipulate the results. Nothing will be beneath them and Trump’s MAGA cronies. The best plan to stop this total corruption of our democracy is to expect the unexpected and to plan ahead. Nobody seems to be doing this. If you doubt the severity of this warning, don’t. This is a President whose son just accepted three hundred thousand dollars’ worth of wedding expenses from a Russian operative close to Putin and whose father, President Trump, invited a known Russian spy into the Oval Office to show the Russians his appreciation for their support of his re-election.
Expect military and paramilitary appearances at the voting polls, including ICE. They may harass voters, particularly “browns and blacks”, at Democratic precincts throughout the country, but particularly in key states.
The Post Office may very well be instructed to ignore the recent Supreme Court ruling and they then will not distribute or accept mail- in ballots in areas where the votes favor the Democrats. What can you do if the postal department says that they are bound to obey the President and are promised personal bonuses and pardons from the government?
State election officials will either be replaced by MAGA supporters, or a separate alternate slate of electors will be put forth by the Republicans. How can you stop it?
Expect that AI will be harnessed to hack the voting machines with the help of friendly American oligarchs and foreign interests such as Russia.
Finally, the government officials charged with accepting and tallying and certifying the election may be compromised, the way Mr. Trump tried to do with Vice President Mike Pence on January 6th. He probably will have better luck with House Speaker Mike Johnson, who at Mr. Trump’s instruction may refuse to accept the credentials to allow a Democratic House of Representatives and even ultimately, may refuse to seat the new Democratic Congresspersons.
Mr. Trump has come up with a scheme of paying every adult citizen five thousand dollars if the Republicans win the midterm elections. That would cost us all about 1.3 trillion dollars. About fifty percent of that government money belongs to Democrats. So, he would be using the Democrats own money to influence them to vote against themselves. Does he think that we are totally stupid? This is unscrupulous. He is capable of anything.
Mr. Trump is not above declaring martial law, suspending habeas corpus, arresting protestors and taking over the government by force. Who will stop the President from ordering the military to fire live ammunition against American protestors and then pardon the military?
What can we do?
First of all, win by a huge supermajority so that as in Hungary, the results are a landslide and incontrovertible. This means a huge physical and economic effort to campaign door to door, paying young people to thoroughly canvass every area where it could make a difference.
Make “Affordability” and Trump’s behavior the key issues.
Create peace and unity within the Democratic party. Avoid extremist, fringe or antisemitic positions. Appeal to open minded Independents who previously voted for Trump and to blue collar workers.
Train supporters to use their phone cameras to record any Republican violations of the voting laws.
Have sympathizers gather intelligence about the Trump organization and get their plans in advance.
Alert the media to be at the areas where the flare ups might occur.
Have many litigation teams ready to file lawsuits in key jurisdictions, where the courts would be willing to enter “cease and desist” and other restraining orders. Of course, the Trump officials can ignore these orders. Who will enforce them?
Enlist the advice and help of the Election Commissioners who Mr. Trump recently fired to assist in advising how to have a clean election.
Have a plan to block AI from contaminating the voting machines and rigging the results.
Contact experts in the physical election process for advice such as the management team at Dominion Voting Systems who successfully sued Fox News.
Contact the experts on fair elections at the Carter Center in Washington, D.C. for guidance.
What about coordinating with the many independent organizations that support democracy such as the League of Women Voters, and the ACLU. There are hundreds of them. Use their influencers, podcasters, internet activists to spread the word as to the importance of this election.
Organize giant coordinated local marches and rallies as well as a huge march on the Capital before the election.
Get voters to the polls with buses, carpools and rallies.
Provide entertainment and refreshments in lawful areas at the polling places around the country.
Request international election supervisors from other nations including the U.N.
If the Democrats win the election in November and gain control of either House of Congress, it will be a long, difficult up-hill road starting with many investigations and State prosecutions, not subject to presidential pardons. The work will require us to rebuild and reshape our government to function as a democracy with checks and balances and guardrails.
